The beginning of the school year requires schoolchildren to increase their mental activity after the summer vacations. What foods should be added to a pupil's diet in September, neurologist Oleg Lenev told in an interview with Radio Sputnik.
To improve cognitive functions and stimulate the central nervous system (CNS), it is useful to add walnuts to a child's usual menu, says the neurologist.
"A narrowly targeted central nervous system stimulant is walnuts. It contains arachidonic acid, which stimulates energy processes in the brain. Therefore, it is good to give walnuts with honey to all children, if there are no contraindications. B vitamins, which are contained in many products, are also a stimulant to the central nervous system and the immune system," said Lenev.
In addition, at the beginning of the school year it is worth diversifying the diet of a schoolchild with forest berries, continued the neurologist.
"Blueberries are good for the retina, its nutrition and microcirculation. Blueberries and blackberries are rich in micronutrients and have a beneficial effect on the brain, as well as on human adaptation to difficult conditions," concluded Oleg Lenev.
