The second wave of the coronavirus literally swept the European region, where the highest morbidity rates since the beginning of the pandemic were recorded last week. Measures to counteract the infection and effectively curb the virus were discussed at the Palace of Independence. Among the participants there were members of the government, heads of all regions, regional aides to the President and, of course, doctors.
The health of Belarusians is our main wealth. And care about people's lives is a priority policy. That is why all resources - human, technical and financial - have been mobilized in the fight against infection. Health care is provided with everything we need. Today, there is an increased attention to the epidemiological situation in each area. In order to make prompt decisions on the spot, the President instructed to organize regional headquarters, involving the best medical specialists.
President on closing the borders of Belarus: there is no politics here.
There are no effective and reliable drugs for coronavirus, and it has already mutated and began to adapt to the methods used to combat it. Therefore, we could not leave our borders open to enter the country. There is no politics here. The decision is serious, it is restrictive in nature. And it is a temporary solution.
Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Russia. The Belarusian border on entry for foreigners is closed along the perimeter. Only the air "gates" are open. The exceptions are made only for diplomats, international drivers, transit passengers.
President: The healthcare system has all the resources it needs to fight COVID.
We cannot ignore the additional negative impact of mass events, because of which the morbidity curve crawls up. This does not mean that we, as it was in spring in some countries, now close everything and quarantine everyone. But where we can do without some mass events, let's do it. Especially if these events are indoors.
Our healthcare system has all the necessary resources. This applies to hospitals, medical staff, medicines, equipment, personal protective equipment. If necessary, medical students can be involved in assisting the nursing staff.
The health care will be provided with everything necessary to ensure full medical care to the population. The financing of the industry, as it has always been, should be sustainable, but thoughtful and result-oriented.
President: The fight against COVID should be systematic.
“The fight against the disease should be systematic and conducted on all fronts - therapeutic, organizational, economic and even political. Do not leave people alone with the flow of information lies and misconceptions. Ensure constant communication with the population through the mass media about the epidemic situation in the country and the measures taken. Answer questions raised by people on the ground, up to and including direct meetings with them. Measures to counter the spread of viral infections will remain a priority until the danger passes, or at least is reduced to a minimum acceptable level. We have no reason to panic, absolutely not! We will provide everyone with the necessary assistance. Everyone, who can be saved, will be saved by possible and impossible methods.”
The country will have regional headquarters to respond to the situation with COVID-19.
“To ensure that everything works smoothly, there will be a special headquarters in each area. Each region will be assisted by the best practitioners. During the spring wave of coronavirus, we relied on local authorities as support centers for operational decision-making. And this practice proved to be effective. Today we have a similar situation. Therefore, we should organize regional headquarters within one or two days. Governors and presidential aides should bear personal responsibility for the work of these regional headquarters and the results. The best infectious disease doctors, representatives of medical science and other specialists will help them.”
Prevention measures in the fight against COVID
The Ministry of Health is waiting for the response from Belarusians, reminding the about the working "health formula". Distance, hand hygiene, airing the rooms and, of course, masks. It is a matter of personal responsibility, as they say! The agency will update the rules of wearing masks, making them mandatory in student classrooms, in trade and catering, for workers in industry, transport and consumer services. The efforts of society, where everyone can observe simple safety measures, will help strengthen the result.
