Millions of Orthodox Christians around the world are celebrating Christmas Eve. This day marks the end of the quadragesimal fast. The believers abstain from food before the appearance of the first star in the sky in memory of the star of Bethlehem that heralded the birth of Christ.

Today, Christmas services will be held at Orthodox churches across the country. The first liturgy will take place at midnight at Minsk’s Holy Spirit Cathedral to be broadcast on the Belarus 1 channel after Panorama.
