Today, the Orthodox Christians mark one of the main holidays of the year – the Ascension of Jesus 40 days after the resurrection that Easter celebrates. For believers this is a day of joy.

Protopriest Evgeny Gromyko, the head of the information department of the Minsk Diocese of the Belarusian Orthodox Church:

"On this day we remember how Jesus gathered his disciples on the Mount of Olives. He told them that they were to preach, and, as the Gospel says, he then departed from them a few steps and began to rise into the sky. This holiday is important for us, because we understand that in this way Jesus raised our human soul to God, and now we have our path to God."

On this day, believers make bakery and pancakes. Also, if the day is sunny, then the autumn is believed to be warm.
