Position of Belarus at 55th session of UN Commission on Population and Development

26 апреля 2022

The use of food and logistical chains as a tool of political pressure and economic blackmail is an act of cynicism and a deliberate provocation, which today has led to record inflation and downfall in living standards of ordinary people in the world. This was stated by the Deputy Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN during the 55th session of the Commission on Population and Development. Pavel Yevseenko reminded that last year the Commission urged to intensify efforts to transform food systems in order to make them more sustainable to achieve food security in developing countries. But this good intention has remained only on paper.

Pavel Yevseenko, Deputy Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN:

Despite the fact that Belarus has been living under the sanctions pressure of the collective West for two years now, our economy has successfully coped with the impact of these negative measures on it. However, the same cannot be said about the economies of individual countries: initiators of reckless unilateral sanctions, as well as developing countries directly dependent on supplies of Belarusian potash fertilizers. Belarus urges to put an end to aggressive policies that today continue to undermine economic systems that have already suffered from the pandemic and only push the world into the abyss of poverty and hunger. Today, the sustainable development of any nation depends on dialogue, action and decisions by all countries.

Pavel Yevseenko summarized: Belarus confirms its readiness to continue a constructive, mutually beneficial and respectful dialogue with all international partners. The population and sustainable development, in particular progressive and all-encompassing economic growth, will be discussed in New York till April, 29. The Commission on Population and Development is a subsidiary body of the UN Economic and Social Council.
