Lithuanian Ambassador presented note in connection with media reports about incident at Ignalina NPP

The Lithuanian Ambassador was given a note in connection with the media reports about the incident at the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant. The Belarusian side expressed concern over the lack of operational information on the incident and called on Lithuania to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident. The press service of the department notes that information about the emergency was transferred to the relevant European structures.

On Tuesday, Lithuanian media reported that as early as last December, during the transfer of spent fuel to the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, it was found that the radioactive level of substances exceeded the estimated level. The reason for this has not yet been established, and the fact of the incident was hidden from the public by the station's management. The Belarusian hydrometeorological center, reported that the radiation situation in the zone of influence of the Ignalina NPP remains stable.
