Poland continues to build fence on border with Belarus

7 марта 2022
Poland continues to build an iron wall on its border with Belarus. The fence will be 186 km long and 5.5 m high. At the same time, only 22 windows for the migration of animals are planned throughout the fence.

The experts note that the Polish wall will dissect the ecosystem and become an insurmountable barrier for large animals. In Grodno, about a thousand of signatures against the decision of the Polish authorities to build a fence through the Belovezhskaya Pushcha Forest have already been collected.

20 million dollars is a preliminary sum of the damage to the national park. The State Control Committee of Belarus continues investigation into the construction of a fence in the territory of the reserved forest by the Polish side. Specialists speak about negative influence of the fence on the ecosystem, on birds' nesting and development of big wild animals' populations.  The duration of the fence in the territory of Belovezhskaya Pushcha is 56 km. The participants of the next round table in the national protected landscape area "Ozera" spoke about it.

As a result of the round table, the resolution with the requirement to the Polish authorities to stop creation of an artificial barrier for animals was adopted.
