The most ancient city in the territory of Belarus and one of the oldest in Eastern Europe turned 1160. The festive day began with a colorful procession. The participants included Polotsk residents and representatives of labor collectives. Many Polotsk brands are well known not only in our country but also abroad.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Union State Mikhail Mishustin sent greetings to the Polotsk residents. The best workers were honored on the main stage of the holiday.

Alexei Anisikovich, deputy chief physician of the Polotsk Central City Hospital:

“This award is not exactly an individual award, a collective one. First of all it is a merit of the staff of Polotsk City Hospital, which in the last two years was able to work in the most worthy manner. We have opened a new PCR laboratory, and an MRI room will open in just three or four weeks.”

According to tradition on the day of the town's birthday, the title "Honorary citizen of the Polotsk District" is solemnly awarded. This year it was bestowed upon Polotsk native, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalia Kochanova.

Natalia Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, honorary citizen of the Polotsk District:

“I have always been proud to be a Polotsk resident. Of course, it is a great honor for me to be here today to congratulate my countrymen on this wonderful holiday - the birthday, the anniversary of the town. I want to say hello to the President of our country because I know how much he has done for our city by approving a comprehensive development programme for it by the Presidential Decree. It's my spiritual force, it's the place where when I come. Here I breathe with all my heart, feeling the warmth of my home and my countrymen.”

Dmitry Mezentsev, State Secretary of the Union State:

“It is very significant and important that we are talking about a new stage of Belarusian-Russian relations today. And here the role of Polotsk, as a land that confirms many centuries of joint history, is only increasing.”
