There are about 4 thousand libraries in Belarus. Today they celebrate the Day of libraries This holiday was initiated in 2001 by a Presidential Decree.
Alexander Susha, deputy director of the National Library of Belarus: Rare and the most valuable books are subject to restoration, conservation. These books are maintained in special boxes from acid-free cardboard which allows the paper and binding to be better preserved over the centuries. Old books are also present in the electronic library.
Many young people today become readers of the library in a virtual mode. They visit the library not physically, but through the computer. All new books and periodicals are automatically placed into the national database.
The rarest publications can be viewed at the Museum of book. No library card is required for the access to the museum. For constant users separate cabins with sound insulation were installed so that nothing prevented the dialogue of the reader and the book.
