Monument to Soviet Soldier becomes new symbol of combat battles in Death Valley

The Battle of Rzhev was one of the bloodiest in the history of the Great Patriotic War. The battle was of great importance to the Red Army. The victory of the Soviet troops at Rzhev became a fundamental breakthrough in the Great Patriotic War. In memory of those who did not return from the battlefield, Rzhevsky Memorial was opened in the village of Khoroshevo, The monument to the Soviet Soldier is the central figure of the memorial. The solemn opening will take place on the day of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. A 25-meter bronze sculpture was placed on a 10-meter mound to be seen tens of miles away.

Before the construction of the Rzhev Memorial began, serious demining work was carried out there.

Over 500 explosive devices were found on 4 hectares. These are hand grenades, anti-personnel mines, artillery shells. 

The face of a Soviet soldier is a collective image. According to the author, he has traits of Belarusians, Russians, Ukrainians, Kazakhs, Uzbeks, Tajiks - all those who fought on this land. 

The solemn opening is scheduled for May 9, the day of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. Along with the Brest Fortress, Rzhev Memorial will be among the five largest memorials dedicated to the feat of Soviet soldiers in the Great Patriotic War.
