New Victims of European Barriers - For Whom the Polish Fence May Become a Wailing Wall?

19 апреля 2022

The construction of a murderous fence in Pushcha is politicized and illegal. "Take away the wall - save Belovezhskaya Pushcha!" - these were the appeals of Belarusians who came to the Embassy of Poland in Minsk for a picket today. None of the diplomats ever came out to them. Let me remind you that ecologists and environmentalists are seriously concerned about the construction of a fence in the forest - the damage to nature is difficult to calculate, because the usual migration route of animals will be interrupted. However, the Belarusians' dissatisfaction with their neighbor's policy has long gone beyond the fence - Anastasia Benedysiuk studied the agenda.

"Only fools carelessly destroy their heritage for immediate gain"! And these conclusions were not made by me. This is the opinion of Newsweek Polska. Weekly magazine. The authors say: since the beginning of autumn, residents of eastern Poland, especially in the vicinity of the Belarusian border, have watched in horror as their peaceful neighborhood was swept up by a militarization frenzy. And journalists are deliberately not allowed to go there.

Tomasz Lis, journalist (Poland):

"This power is deathly afraid of the truth, because its reign is built on lies.  Truth, by definition, is their mortal enemy.

This is Tomasz's direct speech dated November 2021. We remember what was going on at the border during those months. On our side, there was TLC Bruzgi, where there were hundreds of people waiting for the humanitarian corridor.

On the Polish side, there are dead bodies... People were dying of cold and hunger. There were also brutal murders. This is what Emil Czeczko, a soldier who escaped to Belarus, told us about. Even ordinary Poles in Warsaw condemned the actions of their authorities at that time. They took to the streets with posters "Open the border!", "The children's place is not in the woods", "Man is human being to man".

Oleg Chesalov, deputy chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus:

"We already have a lot of evidence.  And it was just a matter of getting there. But it's not possible now. They have time to cover their tracks, hide what they've done there and put a fence around it."

And here, indeed, it is hard to believe that the fence (as Warsaw initially positioned it) is solely the result of the influx of illegal immigrants. And this is the only possible solution!

In short, we no longer have refugees or illegals (whatever one likes) on our side. And the fence is being built! Its price is 400 million dollars.

You don't like kids from the Middle East? Send that money to the Ukrainian ones. And they are starving - your own volunteers write.

Alexander Jacek, political scientist, representative of society "Poland-East":

It may also be a wall of security for Belarus, because it's like a Chinese wall in its time can give you, Belarusians, a peaceful life in the future. But on the other hand, Polish environmentalists raise this issue because it contradicts Polish laws and it is very significant, but since now there is martial law near, the basic laws in Poland have ceased to work, no one pays attention to them.

Poland violates not only national legislation, but also the norms of the European Union, the Convention on the Protection of the World Heritage... Belovezhskaya Pushcha is on the UNESCO list.

- there is no limit to human folly.

- we also need to make a moat with crocodiles

- poor animals, if there's a fire in the forest, there's nowhere to run away

- if people are not spared (refugees), why should animals be spared

The Polish newspaper Wyborcza published an article the other day. One wonders "What could go wrong" with building a fence in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. And I am gonna tell you right now. Here's some previous footage. The barbed wire was a deadly ordeal. A forest animal became entangled and died of mutilation in Schuchin District. The second incident occurred in Ivie District: the animal died due to blood loss and lacerations. The Border Committee has posted new footage today! And this is the third victim of European barriers since the beginning of the week.

Olga Yanchurevich, Head of the Department of Zoology and Physiology of Human and Animals at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno:

Winter surveys have already recorded a decrease in the number of ungulates, in particular, reindeer and roe deer. This figure reaches 30-40% in some areas.

The construction work is going on around the clock. Animals respond to both noise and light. In parallel with the construction of the fence, excavations are being carried out and forests are being cut down there. And this, biologists say, will lead to changes in the hydrological regime.

Nikolai Reznichenko, resident of Brest:

It is impossible to stand aside, when both nature and historical memory are used for political and ideological purposes.

Anastasia Morozova, resident of Pinsk:

By building a fence between us, they will kill nature!

Yuri Segenyuk, resident of Brest:

We understand in our hearts that we need to look our children in the eye afterwards. I encourage everyone to get involved in this process! To say that we are "against" and to state it clearly. There’s no need to be afraid!

Today, pickets went to the consulate of Poland in Brest, and the Polish Embassy in Minsk.  "Take away the wall - save Belovezhskaya Pushcha!", "Pushcha is indivisible! None of the diplomats expectedly attended the event.

But Belarus can sue Poland not only for the fence. The immortal "Victory Day" was played under the windows of the embassy today! The composition is a reminder to the Polish authorities that it is despicable and undignified to fight against monuments to the soldiers-liberators.

 - My father was a war veteran, and for me the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War is very dear. Of course, we are against this vandalism and destruction.

 - We are for friendship, negotiation, resolving issues peacefully

Vitaly Leonovich, member of the council of the "Patriots of Belarus":

On April 19, 1943, the special unit Smersh was organized, so I hope that the Consul General will also join us in congratulating the special unit Smersh and remember what kind of work these guys did in 1943.

Oleg Gaidukevich, leader of the liberal-democratic party, brought an effigy to the embassy for the picket. And explained its symbolism. The effigy has a rainbow tie. And we don't mind. Just don't make us do it. And in general, any suit is your choice. BUT!

Oleg Gaidukevich, deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus:

"Europe has no head of its own, all we want is for Europe to become strong. We should remove the American head and use our own.  And you are gonna start thinking. And a good relationship with Belarus is in Europe's national interest. Polish sovereignty  is by no means a Polish economic miracle. These are the fairy tales. It's all investment, direct American investment. And now it's clear what is was given for. Now they have thrown Ukraine into the horrors of war, believe me, if necessary they will throw the Poles into horrors the war, they will throw Lithuanians into the horrors of war. Do Poles and Lithuanians need it? No. They don't want that."

Returning to the fence, destroying something  natural, something that is protect to is like a fetish for Poland. Those, who are not aware, please read about the environmental crime of Warsaw on the unique sandy Vistula Spit.
