Alexander Lukashenko visits Church of Venerable Optina Elders in Minsk on Orthodox Christmas

9 января 2022
One of the main holidays of the church calendar was marked this week all over the world by the Orthodox believers. The special bell-ringing heralded the Nativity of Christ. By tradition, this bright day is also spent in the church by our President. Alexander Lukashenko visited the Church of Venerable Optina Elders in Minsk.

During these Christmas days, we talk about kind and sincere things. We light candles - symbols of faith and love. We pray for good health and longevity for our families, relatives and loved ones, for peace in our land. And the situation on the planet reminds us more and more that the main value today is peace and tranquility.

Alexander Lukashenko spoke frankly with the congregation about the pressing issues. He talked about the way he sees this year for our country. It will not be an easy one, so Belarus will give a high priority to preserving sovereignty and strengthening ties with our closest allies and partners.

Much has been said about the situation in Kazakhstan. No matter what they say, our peacekeeping contingent went there not to fight. It was to help the brotherly people to stabilize the situation in the region and to prevent the penetration of gangster formations from outside.
