World Bank to allocate 50 million dollars to modernise Belarus’ education system

Belarusian Education Minister Mikhail Zhuravkov and World Bank Regional Director for Belarus Young Chul Kim met in Minsk yesterday to sign an agreement on starting a joint project. 50 million dollars allocated by the World Bank will be spent on the construction and repair of Belarusian schools, as well as on the purchase of equipment. 120 secondary education institutions in rural areas and small towns throughout Belarus are planned to be modernised within five years. The project will affect 25,000 pupils.

According to Mikhail Zhuravkov, more funds will be allocated to international cooperation in the field of secondary school education as Belarus has joined the Programme for International Student Assessment.

The first PISA survey is expected to be conducted in 2018 to be then repeated every three years. The study lies in testing 15-year-old school pupils' performance in mathematics, science, and reading
