International observers appreciate Zapad 2017 exercise

Training missions were performed in a quality manner in the course of the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he inspected the troops taking part in the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017 in the Borisovsky exercise area. Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the exercise went in line with the approved concept. Its goals have been reached. Training missions have been completed in a quality manner. Joint defense in conditions of modern challenges and security threats was practiced at a decent level.

The Zapad 2017 army exercise also allowed improving the level of cohesion of command and control organizations and the operational compatibility of staffs of different levels. The exercise also improved the ability of Belarusians and Russians to work together in combat situations. Commanding officers and staffs had some good practice planning actions of their troops. Strong skills and combat mastery was demonstrated by personnel of various army units, which belong to the regional military force.

The Belarusian-Russian joint strategic army exercise Zapad 2017 is an example of transparency, the OSCE observer Robin Mossinkoff told the media. "This is a perfect example of transparency," the observer said as he shared his impressions about the organization of Zapad 2017. He added that Belarus had demonstrated how to host such events. Robin Mossinkoff emphasized that during the Zapad 2017 army exercise the observers had the opportunity to obtain unbiased information. The expert thanked Belarus for having invited international organizations to the exercise, including the OSCE in accordance with the 2011 Vienna Document.

The Italian expert Massimo Fogari shared this opinion. He also commended great skills of Belarusian and Russian troops.
