June saw the 7th meeting of the Constitutional Commission. The participants of the authoritative team reviewed the preamble and the main provisions of the Constitution. As Petr Miklashevich pointed out, only some of the provisions should be clarified and supplemented, while in general this part of the main document of the country is fully up to date. Representatives of the Commission proposed to stipulate the desire of Belarus to neutrality in the Basic Law, but the most important thing is collective defense to protect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the state. There will be no military threat coming from our territory. Another thesis to be reflected in the updated Constitution is the development of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Petr Miklashevich, Chairman of the Constitutional Commission, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Belarus:
The Belarusian nuclear power plant has been built. Accordingly, the provision on the nuclear-free territory of Belarus should be clarified and it should be specified at the constitutional level that the Republic of Belarus uses nuclear power for peaceful purposes, guarantees the safety of production and use of nuclear power. In the preamble of the Basic Law, there could be provisions on the preservation of national identity. We will also talk about cultural and spiritual values.
Tomorrow the bill on protection of sovereignty and constitutional order will be considered by the senators.
