Requiem ceremony takes place in Shklennikovo village

On 27 September 1943, the village of Shklennikovo, Myadel District, was burnt to the ground. A requiem ceremony took place in the village to commemorate the events of 1943.

Local residents, of those few who survived, call the place "a second Khatyn". 45 houses were burned. The massacre took the lives of 16 people. Today, their names are engraved on the monument and are forever in the memory of their relatives. Flowers were laid to the monument by survivors of the war, relatives of the deceased, and members of student unions.

Natalia Burak, the director of Myadel Museum of People's Glory: "The Nazi troops conducted the punitive operation Fritz. They conducted their operations not only in the territory of Myadel District, but also in Vileika, Postavy, and Braslav Districts. Tens of thousands of Nazi soldiers were involved, and at that time the villages of Myadel District were burnt to the ground."

On the night of 27 September, a year before the liberation of Belarus, literally a third of Myadel District was burnt. All in all, 68 villages were burned there during the years of the German occupation, with nearly 4,000 civilians killed.
