The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our country has prepared a report on the most resonant cases of human rights violations in some Western countries. By this document the Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again reminds that before imposing their vision of human rights in other regions our colleagues in the West need to look at themselves.
The report covers 21 states including a number of countries of the European Union, USA, Great Britain and Canada - the most active "advocates" of economic sanctions and other restrictive measures. The report contains resonant and outrageous cases of actions of the authorities of the Western states, and their legal qualification in terms of compliance with their international obligations.
Numerous violations during dispersals of rallies of Covid protesters in Western countries are mentioned. For example, in January 2021, after the imposition of a curfew and increased restrictions on entry to the Netherlands, protests were held in ten cities, and about 250 people were detained. In order to disperse them, the Dutch police used special means, batons and water cannons, some of the demonstrators were injured.
The most famous case of violation was the detention of African-American George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020. Police Department officers held and choked Floyd, holding him on the ground and keeping their knees on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
As noted the report, the treatment of the detainee by Minneapolis Police Department officers, was a torture during which he was executed without charge or trial. The incident received widespread public outcry and resulted in protests.
