International Day for Monuments and Sites observed on April18

18 апреля 2022
In 1982, ICOMOS established 18 April as the International Day for Monuments and Sites, followed by UNESCO adoption during its 22nd General Conference. The global objective is to protect and preserve cultural heritage all over the world. In Belarus, this issue is given a high priority. In the Year of Historical Memory, the state focuses its attention, among other things, on maintenance and restoration of monuments and memorials to those who fell during the Great Patriotic War. Khatyn Memorial complex will be reconstructed and construction of a diorama pavilion in the Kurgan of Glory memorial complex will open.

The fundraising for the creation of the national monument "Living Memory of Grateful Generations" has been announced. From April 12 to May 9 this year, everyone is welcome to bring the surviving Soviet coins to the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War. They will become a single alloy in a commemorative sign. A triangle letter from great-grandfathers to grandchildren will be made of silumin.
