Mendkovich: EAEU can become global player in food security

28 мая 2022
The main theses of the EAEU summit are actively discussed by the expert community. Despite the unstable global economic situation and non-partner behavior of some foreign states, the Eurasian Economic Union may become a global player in the sphere of food security.

This opinion was shared with our TV channel by Russian political analyst Nikita Mendkovich, head of the Eurasian Analytical Club.

Nikita Mendkovich, political scientist, head of the Eurasian Analytical Club, expert of the Russian Council on International Affairs:

“The current state of the agrarian sector of the Eurasian Union and the Union of Russia of Belarus gives us a guarantee of full food self-sufficiency. That is, no matter what happens in the outside world, we will provide for ourselves. At the moment the main grain producers in the post-Soviet countries are Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine is currently passing into a new political status. In fact a considerable part of its arable land is under the control of Russia's civil-military administration, and therefore one can say that we are just controlling the food market of Eurasia.”

The political scientist stressed that now it is necessary to use it wisely, i.e. to secure foreign markets for ourselves, to derive financial benefits from this, but not to forget about our own political security.
