The tendency of falsifying history, desecrating and destroying monuments began long before today's events. There were attempts to equate a Soviet soldier with a fascist, to equate the atrocities of the Nazis with the actions of the Soviet army. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei. The cancellation of the Victory Day celebration in some countries is an opportunistic position.
Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus:
Today, against the background of anti-Russian hysteria and pressure from the West, some post-Soviet states took such an opportunistic position. How does it manifest itself? The format of the Victory Day celebrations is changing. Even the name itself is changed: the Memorial Day, not the Victory Day.
Today, in some states the red flags under which Europe was liberated from Nazism and the brown plague are even banned. This is an attempt by the West to recode the consciousness of the peoples of the post-Soviet countries. This is absolutely unacceptable. We should do everything to counteract these attempts and not give in to political opportunism.
On the eve of the 77th anniversary of the Victory, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the leadership of the Foreign Ministry laid flowers at the stele "Minsk - Hero City".
