A big conversation about science was held in the Palace of Independence. The President invited 250 scientists and experts to the meeting. According to Alexander Lukashenko, science is the foundation of the statehood and an important driver of the national economy. The President underscored the importance of scientists' work for the national security.
Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:
We have no other choice - we should be among the leaders. It is not just a matter of your scientific ambitions, but also of preserving our statehood and the Belarusian nation. Therefore, one of the strategic tasks for science and production today is to raise the efficiency of scientific research, create modern technologies and their widespread implementation. We have to ensure sustainable innovative development of the economy and a significant increase in GDP.
As for development, the government was instructed to adopt an informal approach to the Year of Historical Memory and reach out to the agro-towns.
Continuity of generations is a key to success in science
Attracting young people to science is also an important element in the development of the NAS and the industry as a whole. There is a need for continuity in the scientific sphere: the effective work of the chain "school - university - academic institute". This is a guarantee of success and the emergence of new luminaries of science, such as Alferov, Borishevich or Vysotsky.
President bestows state awards to scientists
Today, the Belarusian leader has conferred state awards and diplomas of academicians and corresponding members to 45 scientists of the National Academy of Sciences.
