Lukashenko: Slavic peoples should live in peace and harmony

22 февраля 2022
Belarus is going to celebrate a true men's holiday symbolizing valor and bravery: the Defenders of the Fatherland and Armed Forces Day. A solemn meeting has been held today in the Palace of the Republic to mark the occasion. The President of the Republic took part in it. The elite of the national army, as well as veterans, who ensured us a peaceful sky over our heads by their feat of arms, were among the honorary guests of the event. On the eve of February 23, we remember the heroic feats of our ancestors and thank those who daily defend their homeland and family, often risking their lives. One such example is the CSTO peacekeeping mission in Kazakhstan. The whole country was worried about our guys, to say nothing of the feelings of those closest to them. Our troops performed all tasks flawlessly. For their courage and bravery, the heroes received state awards from the President.

A meeting on the eve of the Day of Fatherland Defenders was held in the Palace of the Republic. The day has become a symbol of courage and patriotism. The festive date of February unites people of different generations. We thank those who dedicated their lives to the military profession.

This is a long-standing tradition. On the eve of the holiday, the head of state invites the people who stand guard of our sovereignty and tranquility. And, of course, our veterans are in the hall. The occasion for the meeting is solemn, but the atmosphere around is not holiday like. There is nervous background: constant information attacks and news of what broke out somewhere. And we can't just take it and say it doesn't concern us.

President: Overseas players fight for geopolitical influence sowing death and destruction

Poland and the Baltic States have embarked on a course of militarization, interference in internal affairs and sanctions. This Sunday, there will be a referendum in Belarus. No one doubt that there would be attempts to stir up confusion. Groups that were planning to disrupt the campaign have already been revealed. Plus, every day we hear how uneasy it is in the south.

Lukashenko: I will do everything to keep Belarus a peaceful island on a mad planet

Any attempts to intimidate us and to impose someone else's will on us are doomed, declared the President. Serenity and independence are the greatest values in Belarus. Our country has always proclaimed its peace-loving policy, while never for a moment forgetting to protect its borders and citizens engaging in cooperation in various formats in terms of security, modernization of our army, training of personnel. The gunpowder must be kept dry - this is our security policy.

Lukashenko presented state awards to the participants of the CSTO peacekeeping mission in Kazakhstan

Every member of the mission deserves a reward for having set off to a foreign country without a second thought, risking their lives. It is difficult to imagine what their relatives and friends felt at that moment.

Protecting Historical Truth and Memory

We guard not only the borders and the airspace, but the virtual space now poses no less dangerous threats. Fake news is like information projectiles, striking at the image and reputation of the country, questioning the glorious feat of soldiers. But we will not allow our history to be rewritten.

As long as the soldiers are on the guard of the country's defense, we, ordinary people, may not worry about our tomorrow, raise children and make plans. First and foremost the duty of these men is not to let the bloody pages of history repeat, not to lose and not to betray the Victory we have inherited.
