Lithuanians travel to Belarus for food and fuel

Rising prices and shortage of goods in the Eurozone have forced Lithuanians to turn a blind eye to politics and sanctions. They massively come to Belarus for cheap goods and car fuel: due to sanctions, Belarusian products simply disappeared from the shelves of Lithuanian stores. In order to go shopping with us, the neighboring country has even partially lifted the anti-Covid restrictions: you do not need to be in quarantine when you return to Lithuania. High inflation in the euro area is also in favor of the Belarusian tour: for example, our neighbors save up to 100 euros on a tank of diesel fuel. It is very profitable. Now diesel fuel costs €1.95 in Lithuania. And in Belarus it's about 80 cents.

According to the customs officials, the number of Lithuanian citizens, who go to Belarus for our goods, has almost doubled. Last weekend, they exported motor fuel, foodstuffs, our salt, flour. As foreigners say, Belarusian goods are of high quality and are natural. However, prices in Lithuania have increased significantly over the past few weeks. Customs officials predict that the number of those willing to shop in Belarus will only increase in the coming weeks.
