Doctor of Medicine Yuri Demidchik was awarded for his outstanding contribution to medicine. For thirteen years the scientist has been looking for a cure for thyroid cancer. Back in the 70s the disease was considered only a medical issue and posed no social danger. However, after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant cases of thyroid cancer have increased dramatically. No one knew how to treat it.
