Genetics, synchrotron-neutron research and microelectronics - Kurchatov Institute to open a branch in Minsk

The National Research Center of Kurchatov Institute intends to open a branch in Belarus next February. The acting head of the Kurchatov Complex for Synchrotron and Neutron Investigations of the Kurchatov Institute Nikita Marchenkov told about it at the II Congress of young scientists on December 2. In July 2021, the Kurchatov Institute and the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Belarus signed a roadmap for cooperation until 2030. According to the head of the institute Mikhail Kovalchuk, the initiative involves the creation of a common research space. The parties also agreed on such initiatives as opening a branch of the Kurchatov Institute on the basis of the NAS of Belarus.

The branch of the Kurchatov Institute in Minsk plans to conduct research in a number of joint areas, such as genetics, synchrotron-neutron research and microelectronics, said Marchenkov, who also heads the coordinating council for youth in science and education of the Presidential Council for Science and Education.

The II Congress of Young Scientists was held at the Sirius Park for Science and the Arts in Sochi on December 1-3.
