31 марта 2021
The Constitutional Commission began its work today. According to the Chairman of the Constitutional Court Petr Miklashevich, every proposal that is submitted to the participants of the working group will be considered. At the same time, the most constructive initiatives may be implemented not in the Constitution, but in the relevant laws or legal acts. A working schedule has been determined to consider proposals for each of the sections of the country's Basic Law.

Petr Miklashevich, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Belarus: "The Constitution shouldn't be changed from scratch. The Republic of Belarus has been developing steadily, dynamically and safely for about 30 years. We are making progress in various directions. And today it is necessary to strengthen the legal framework of our Basic Law in order to make it possible to regulate at the highest level, modern, public relations in all areas."

In addition to organizational and legal issues, today the focus group began to consider proposals for the second section of the Constitution. As noted by Petr Miklashevich, the commission began its work with such an important concept as "the rights and freedoms of a citizen". Personal data protection, traditional family foundations, the introduction of the institution of ombudsmen for human rights, as well as toughening of responsibility for violation of individual rights are considered. The Constitutional Commission will continue to work all day.
