Following the meeting of the Council of Ministers on functioning of the economy under the sanctions and measures to overcome them, which was chaired by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Minister of Industry Pyotr Parkhomchik told reporters when Belarus and Russia would be able to create their own passenger cars, BelTA informs.

"This is not only our dream, but the dream of the Russian Federation," said Peter Parkhomchik. - You know that the Russian Federation had its own automobile industry, and it developed quite well at some period of time. But lately they've been into creating so-called assembly factories with different manufacturers from all over the world. There were Europeans, Koreans, Japanese. They have all closed down their productions. They were in the Russian Federation for 10 to 15 years, and over this period they did not create the necessary localization of the main components of car production. And Russia, like us, is now solving this problem after a certain period of time."

We need to combine efforts with the Russian Federation in this matter, the Minister clarified. "I was literally a month ago at VAZ, we discussed these problems with the head of this enterprise. There are certain difficulties with the component base, which the designers have not developed recently, that is, they have not done the appropriate work. To a certain extent, certain competences have been lost that are supposed to deal with this issue. So we will have to find some common solutions together. We are working on that now. We heard that Moskvich is supposed to come back in the near future. They are looking for a platform on which to produce a new car. Approximately the same is being done by us, at the same time we are working on assembling BELGEE crars”, - he added. - The question is very important. I think we'll find a solution. As we can see, it will be, of course, electric vehicles.”
