The military note that the situation around Belarus is escalating, the neighboring states, unfortunately, are actively militarizing. The Belarusian army should be prepared primarily for defense. This was stated by Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin during the meeting, held at the Palace of Independence, reports sb.by.
The head of the defense ministry emphasized: "I do not want anyone to be scared that tomorrow there will be a war. And the President stressed in his report: there are no immediate preparations. Seeing how our neighbors act, we have to react to everything that is happening and prepare our Armed Forces, our state, first of all, for protection, for defence. We are not going to threaten anyone or attack anyone. We want to live on our own territory, to make our own decisions, to protect our sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity."
During the meeting with the President of Belarus, they discussed the implementation of earlier decisions and analyzed the lessons learned.
"We understand that by getting involved now in the arms race, as some states say, we may cause trouble for the economy. We have to proceed (and this was stressed by the head of state) only from the principle of reasonable sufficiency, the first necessity. There should be no excess, nothing unnecessary. First of all, in this situation, we must rely on our strength and readiness to defend our country on our own," stressed Viktor Khrenin.
