Catholics of Belarus celebrate Easter

Catholics and Protestants around the world solemnly celebrate the Resurrection of Christ. The Easter holiday is one of the most important Christian days in the calendar. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated the believers on this holiday.

"During these solemn days, the heart of every believer is opened to the wonderful message of Christ's Resurrection, which revives in us faith, love and hope, encourages us to strive for creative work and good deeds. This spiritual uplift gives us strength to help those in need of human warmth, protection, food and shelter. May the Christian virtues continue to be the spiritual shield of our people and our native Belarus. May the joy of Easter days fill our souls with wisdom, unity and harmony," the message of felicitation says.

On the eve of Easter, the main festive Easter services were held in every Catholic church of the country. In Minsk, the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus, Metropolitan Archbishop Jozef Staniewski of Minsk and Mogilev celebrated the Easter liturgy at St. Mary's Cathedral. Belteleradiocompany broadcasted the Holy Paschal Mass so that all those who could not attend the church in person could join in prayer.

Services in honor of the Resurrection of Christ will continue all day long. From churches, the celebration of Easter will move into homes. It is a traditional family celebration, with painted eggs, cakes and the finest delicacies on the table.
