High international of Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park

On December 14, 1992, by the decision of the visiting session of UNESCO (the USA) the best-preserved site of the old-growth forests of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" has been inscribed on the List of World Heritage Sites. This was the first site within the territory of the former USSR that has received such a high nature protection status.

Today, the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" has all the highest international environmental titles, which no other European protected area has at the same time.

⇒ In 1992, a part of Belovezhskaya Pushcha was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

⇒ In 2014, after the repeated nomination, Belovezhskaya Pushcha on both sides of the border (Belarus-Poland) was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a single transboundary site with an area of over 140,000 hectares.

⇒ In 1993 Belovezhskaya Pushcha entered the international network of biosphere reserves under the "Man and the Biosphere" program of UNESCO.

⇒ In 1997 the Council of Europe awarded the European Diploma for the exemplary management of the outstanding European natural heritage to Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

⇒ In 2013, Belovezhskaya Pushcha was included in the PAN-European Network of Wilderness Areas.

Due to absence of any economic activity 120 species of living organisms new to the world science have been discovered in Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

The State Nature Protection Institution "The National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" is managed by the Department of Affairs of the President of the Republic of Belarus.
