Let's talk about one of the main tasks of our generation - to resist the falsification of historical facts. A week before the 81st anniversary of the Great Patriotic War Belarus hosted an international conference "Historical Memory. The Great Victory through Unity". It is being held under the auspices of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly. Belarus' experience in this area will serve as a basis for other countries. After all, representatives of all republics of the Soviet Union gained the Victory in 1945 as a united front. And now we have to protect the historical truth together.
Defending the history and protecting the memory of those who did not survive till May 1945 is a common task for parliamentarians, diplomats and scientists.
The Nazis' crimes were not against any one people, they exterminated all nationalities of the Soviet Union. This position was heard at the Nuremberg Trials. It is still spoken about today.
Crimes without statute of limitations
80 years later, the unknown burial places were revealed. Within the criminal case on genocide of Belarusian people, more than 400 places of mass extermination of people have been revealed. These crimes have no statute of limitations. This was discussed at the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, where one of the sections of the conference was held.
Legislative basis for the protection of historical memory
Today, when the countries of the West are so actively trying to rewrite the results of the World War II and revive the ideas of Nazism, Belarus remains a bastion in the protection of historical truth and memory of our common political, economic and cultural space.
Belarus is an example in the protection of historical memory. We have adopted a law on the genocide of the Belarusian people. In addition, the provisions on historical memory and truth are enshrined in the Basic Law of the country. But the attitude towards the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War is embedded in our childhood. After all, in every village there are memorials, monuments and obelisks. One of the thematic sections of the conference took place in the Memorial Church of All Saints - the national pantheon of memory. After all, this is where the ground from all the battles of the Great Patriotic War is collected.
It is the duty of the modern generation to protect the historical memory.
