Changes to legislation to be introduced in first quarter of 2021

28 января 2021
Attempts to destabilize the situation in the country need to be actively countered in the legal field. The improvement of legislation was discussed today at the Palace of Independence.

The President invited the leaders coordinating this work to the conversation. State security is at the forefront. It is important to respond proportionately to violations of laws. And legal norms should reliably identify and suppress any actions against the country. Alexander Lukashenko's accents are clear: the past year has become a serious challenge for everyone. The scale of attempts to shake the situation in Belarus was unprecedented. The well-coordinated and efficient work of law enforcement officers and other government agencies helped to take control of the situation.

Many proposals are taken into account in the updated Administrative Codes, in amendments to the criminal legislation. The President urges to take another look at the current legal norms in order to eliminate gaps. In particular, we should take into account the European experience of responding to the attempts to destabilize the situation in the country. In recent months, street protest activity has decreased, but Alexander Lukashenko urges people not to relax: there are no reasons for complacency. The President also explained in which case a political amnesty is possible in Belarus.

The President demanded a clear position of all the participants in the meeting regarding legislative shortcomings. There is no need to get carried away with departmental interests; it is important to think about security. The main demand of the President is to create a powerful legal field to counter all possible challenges and threats.

There must be a legal response to every destructive action, and all attacks against the state must be clearly and quickly suppressed. This also applies to foreign coordinators of anti-government policy. Alexander Lukashenko's position remains unchanged: destabilizing the internal situation in Belarus is a way to Russia.
Recent events leave no doubt about that. Attempts to destabilize the situation in the Union space will continue further, the President is sure. And Belarus should be ready for this, including in the legal field.
