The provision of places in dormitories is a priority of state youth policy. Sofia came from Estonia. She says she made a choice between two institutions, one at home, and one in Belarus. She chose the second one. She is now in her fourth year at the medical college. She wants to be a surgeon.
Sofia Verman, a medical student of the Faculty of Foreign Students of Belarusian State Medical University:
“We compared the education and the faculty. There's highly qualified training, a lot of practice, which is actually a big plus. Even at our university in Estonia there is more theory than practice. I really like the education here, the lecturers are always ready to help, to explain, you can always call them at any time of the day or night.”
In addition to a good education in Belarus, foreign students can get a dormitory. For example, Amir flew from Iran and lives in the student village. He decided to follow in his father's footsteps - he studies dentistry in the second year of medical school.
Amir Soleiman Nejad, medical student of foreign students at BSMU:
“Two years ago I was studying in Germany at the Hamburg State University, and I had the goal to become a doctor. Yet, I decided to go to Minsk, to the Belarusian State Medical University. My father has friends, they all studied here, I often see them in Iran, too. They all told me, "This is a very good place to study, to live."
The Student Village is a comfortable place to live and study
In the Student Village of Minsk, 8 dormitories for 7. 5 thousand people have been built here since 2009. Each building has a canteen, a gym and a medical center. In 2024 it is planned to build one more hostel for two universities. The dormitory is designed for 1,030 people. The building will be divided into blocks. Each block will have a bathroom and a kitchen equipped with appliances. Three more student dormitories will appear in Minsk.
Almost 90% of students are provided with housing in the dormitories
The Ministry of Education annually addresses the issue of housing for students. It is obligatory to settle out-of-town first-year students. A priority is given to preferential categories of students: children from large families and orphans. In addition, there is support for creative and leadership young people - they are also entitled to move into the dormitory.
As noted the Ministry of Education, in 2025 the provision of students with dormitories will be 100%.
