State Border Committee of Belarus: Situation at western checkpoints remains tense

6 декабря 2022

The situation at the checkpoints on the western border of the country remains tense, reported the State Border Committee. The situation is related primarily to the queues of vehicles, departing from Belarus. The queue of trucks averages 300 to 600 cars.

Igor Butkevich, First Deputy Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus:

"The most tense situation remains at the "Kamenny Log" checkpoint, in front of which more than 1,000 trucks have lined up. There are periodic queues of cars in front of the checkpoints "Berestovitsa" and "Brest" in the amount of more than 200 cars. The situation is also significantly affected by the decision taken by the Polish side to close a number of checkpoints. Thus, of the six road checkpoints only three are functioning. In addition, due to inadequate work of the control services of the neighboring parties, the capacity of the checkpoints is 2-3 times lower than estimated."

The State Border Committee has repeatedly informed the competent authorities of the neighboring countries about the need to normalize the work of the checkpoints. However, no measures were taken on the other side.
