The war ended for him near Prague. These heroic pages are still remembered by Belarusians today. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated the Hero of the Soviet Union Vasily Michurin on his anniversary.
“You have played different roles in your long and eventful life: the roles of a soldier, a citizen, a patriot, a family man. Having gone through tremendous ordeals, you have preserved the best human qualities such as love of life, kindness, generosity, justice, honesty and integrity,” the felicitation message reads. “You are a legend, and your life is an example for us and for future generations, a vivid example of selfless service to the Homeland, the strength of spirit and cast-iron will.”
The head of stat thanked the veteran for everything he has done to protect, preserve and develop the Fatherland, for the unparalleled feat in the name of freedom and independence of Belarus. Alexander Lukashenko wished Vasily Michurin health, wellbeing and the best of luck.
The congratulatory message and gifts from the President were presented to the veteran by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Viktor Gulevich.
After successful surgery, the veteran is staying in the "Comfortable Life" boarding house, where he is provided with constant professional care. Taking into account his age, the state of his health and the epidemic situation, the veteran did not hold a large-scale celebration and did not invite guests. But he was happy and touched to receive a congratulatory message from the head of state on his birthday, flowers and gifts. "I live. And I want to live," Vasily Sergeyevich said to the guests with a smile.
