Genocide of Belarusian people during WWII - remains of civilians reburied in Chenkovsky Forest

13 июня 2022

The remains of civilians shot during the Great Patriotic War have been reburied with honors in the Chenkovsky Forest (near Gomel). Last year, during the excavations they found 13 execution pits there. The remains of 489 people were raised. The results of numerous expert examinations testify that mass murders of civilians were carried out by German executioners.

Viktor Morozov, Prosecutor of Gomel Region:

The physical evidence that has been found today shows that these are items from the wartime period and these ammunition were fired from German weapons. A German punitive detachment operated on the site for a long time. We have no doubt that these were graves from the times of the WWII made by German executioners.

The excavations in the Chenkovsky Forest continue. It is estimated that by now only one fifth of all the burials have been uncovered.
