Council of Republic: MEPs deliberately mislead public in their states

9 февраля 2022
MEPs deliberately mislead the public in their states. The Presidium of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus adopted a statement concerning the distortion by MEPs of the situation in the country on the eve of the Republican referendum.

Thus, the statement of February 1 spread fake information about the national referendum on amendments and additions to the Constitution. Obtaining information from unreliable and politicized sources, MEPs deliberately mislead the public in their states. The senators are convinced that Belarus, on the contrary, shows the European Union countries an example of thoughtful, systematic work to update the Constitution, carried out in accordance with the law. By the way, the preparation of amendments to the Constitution was launched back in 2016. This work entered an active phase by the decision of the 6th All-Belarusian People's Assembly. The Constitutional Commission and a working group were created.

The discussion of the draft amendments and additions resulted in 9 thousand proposals were received, took place with interest, in a calm and businesslike atmosphere," the statement stresses. In Belarus, like nowhere else in the world, the power of the people is developed and changes to the Basic Law are adopted not behind the scenes, but at a national referendum. It is time for the deputies of the European Parliament to stop baseless speculation and think seriously about developing a civilized and constructive policy towards the sovereign and independent state of Belarus.
