Minsk hosts international conference on establishment of Eurasian Economic Community

12 декабря 2013
The main purpose of the event is to discuss the Eurasian integration project and promote the idea in the media. Conference participants are representatives of the CIS expert community, officials, diplomats and journalists. The issue of Eurasian information policy became the leitmotif of today's discussion. Despite controversies, all the participants agreed on one thing: without creating a shared information space it would be problematic to promote Eurasian integration beyond the Customs Union.

Lesya Karataeva, Deputy Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan: We have a clear understanding of what the Customs Union and Common Economic Space are like. As for the Eurasian Economic Community, there are many myths yet. Therefore, the media plays a key role in informing the public about the essence of the EAEC.

Experts expressed the need to establish a common information center for Eurasian integration within the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia. This will raise the awareness of other countries that are preparing to join the EAEC in the future.
