Yevgeny Korol tells why Latvia rewrites the World War II history

For Belarusians, the memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War is sacred. You can't say the same about our neighbors. The mayor of Riga has proposed to cancel the celebration of May 9. At the same time, he permitted the procession of Nazi Waffen SS legionaries in the city downtown. Local residents are literally forced to protect the memory of their ancestors themselves, in particular, to hold watch at the Monument to the Liberators of Riga, to protect the monument from vandals. So, why is Latvia so eager to rewrite the history of the World War II and make heroes of those who committed atrocities on our land and crimes against humanity?

Yevgeny Korol, the co-chairman of the Action Party in Latvia voiced his opinion to our channel.

Yevgeny Korol, co-chairman of the Action Party, Latvia:

They started rewriting history long time ago. History is a tool to influence people's minds. On March 16, we have a procession in Latvia of people who served under Nazi Germany. Today, they are presented as liberators. I can say for myself that I have a terrible disgust for these people. This is very painful for me, but this is the current reality that my colleagues are trying to fight against in different European institutions, but, unfortunately, it is difficult to do something here, since the whole of Europe is on their side. Even some BMW cars have a Waffen SS symbol. I'm terribly sorry, but why don't they get fined? The whole of Europe does not notice this.

As for the the influence of other countries on our agenda, our Prime Minister is a citizen of two countries (Latvia and America), at least, when he ran for the office, and this is very strange. A person who obtains American passport takes an oath of citizenship to the USA.
