Diplomats to adopt resolution on human rights violations in the West for future sessions of Human Rights Council

Hate crimes, glorification of Nazism, discrimination, restrictions on peaceful assembly and freedom of speech are no stranger to the "democracies" that love to lecture us. But despite the impressive list of violations, for some reason the problems of these countries are not raised in international forums. The Permanent Mission of Belarus in Geneva decided to remedy the situation. It organized a discussion on the lack of proper monitoring and response to human rights violations in the West.

Andrei Savinykh, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus:

The tale that the West is richer and more developed only due to progressive views and better organization is not true. This argument justifies the West's expansive attempts to impose its social practices, called human rights, on the rest of the world. However, and this is obvious, Western democracy and the human rights model are an armed tool for controlling society. Let me give you a few more examples. We all remember them well from the history of the last 70 years. The West has demonstrated a certain type of behavior. If they failed to control society through the imposition of democratic values in the third world, they tried to completely destroy these countries.

Fabio Marcelli, Director of Research at the Institute for International Legal Studies of the National Research Council (Italy):

Western policy has historically been defined by colonial intentions. All over the world we see many demonstrations of the new colonialism, from Colombia to Pakistan. We recently witnessed a war in Iraq waged by the Americans. The Bush administration has committed many crimes against humanity by unleashing mass violence in the region. An important root cause of human rights violations is historical racism, which unfortunately remains a persistent problem. The police in many Western countries are susceptible to it as well. The BLM campaign, which has uncovered many previously unknown cases of police violence against black people, makes this clear.

Diplomats will prepare resolutions for future sessions of the Human Rights Council. They will address human rights abuses in the West. However, we cannot hope that the documented facts will somehow stop the disease of self-confidence and snobbery.
