By Vladimir Korolev: The State Control Committee’s Financial Monitoring Department has become a laureate of the Best Egmont Case Award in Qatar, which is the fourth award conferred on Belarus at such a competition. The agency presented a case of theft of unprovisioned bitumen, crushed stone and fuel oil during road construction works. Later, the same or similar schemes were uncovered in other road organisations of the country. The data released by the Financial Monitoring Department led to a number of checks not only within Belarus, but also in some other countries.

Belarus’ case has been recommended for study to all 150 participating countries.

The Egmont Group is an informal association of financial intelligence units, which Belarus has been involved with since 2007.
