By Alexander Savenko: This morning, the Emergency Situations Ministry’s plane with Belarusian humanitarian aid worth more than 2 billion rubles arrived at Damascus Airport. The rescuers’ task was complicated by the tense situation in Syria as fierce battles are currently taking place a few kilometers from the landing point.

The IL-76 aircraft was met at the airport by local authorities and Belarus’ Ambassador to Syria Alexander Ponomarev. Belarus’ delegation visited one of the major refugee camps in a Damascus suburb. It is home to more than 2,000 people, half of them being children. The Belarusian humanitarian cargo is currently being prepared to be delivered to the camp’s territory.
