The President's trip to western Belarus was an opportunity to meet with the regional authorities and communicate with the team of Grodno Nitrogen, a major fertilizer producer.
As Alexander Lukashenko himself noted, this is an occasion to discuss what is going on in the country. The situation in agriculture, the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, people's health against the background of viral infections.
The President has confessed more than once: back in Soviet times, he came to the region to get agrarian experience. The area was among the most advanced in the union. But after the collapse of the big country, a lot had to be rebuilt. And food security depends on how we sow and prepare the feed. This is especially important during a pandemic when the world's manufacturers are only launching their conveyors. And Belarus did not stop them.
Before discussing global issues for the region, the President is first of all interested in how his instructions are fulfilled. The Governor reports on five important projects at once.
For example, heritage preservation. The old castle, where the residence of the King of the Rzeczpospolita was in the 16th century, is the visiting card of Grodno.
A whole complex of buildings under the regional oncologic dispensary is also under construction.
During 25 years the volume of industrial production in the region has grown 4 times, and export almost 5 times.
Of course, the challenges will affect the economy. You don't need to be an expert to understand that our export partners have problems - it means that it will be harder for us to earn. But even despite this, industrial production was maintained at the last year's level.
