Tanya Chernobay from the Ukrainian town of Uglegorsk was 8 when four shells hit the house where she was hiding from shelling. She was with her friends there. They died on the spot. Tanya's hair was burned off, the shrapnel cut her neck, and a third of her body was burned.

During 8 years Tanya underwent 34 surgeries and treatment in different places. Most of them were on her right leg. She was operated on by many doctors. In 2015, she was sent to Germany three times, and later to the Czech Republic. But the leg could not be cured. Surgeons achieved only a temporary effect. Hope was given by Belarusian doctors.

Konstantin Khakhelko, head of the department of Minsk regional clinical hospital:

“We should refrain from surgical treatment at this time, because the bone may build up over time. It was decided that we will look at it again in 6-8 months, take pictures and come to a better decision.”
