Belarusian agricultural scientists offer tasty and useful novelties of the season. The main task of the breeders is to create frost-resistant products that can be preserved for a long time. By the way, spring garlic does not lose its properties throughout the year. Among the bonuses of some varieties is an increased content of rare  elements.
Nikolai Kupreenko, head of the department of the Institute of Vegetable Breeding of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus: "One of such elements, important for garlic, is selenium. It's organically bound selenium, which affects the human immune system, and there's even literary evidence that it helps with cancer. So we created a material with a higher selenium content as part of our basic research programme. A person can eat 2-3 heads of garlic a day and fully satisfy the need for selenium".
According to scientists, our apple and pear varieties have coped well with frost this winter. We expect a decent harvest in summer and autumn. This is despite the fact that the flowering phase has shifted by two weeks due to the cool spring.
