Belarusian physicians save child with severe liver failure

The unique operation was performed by Belarusian doctors, who saved the life of a Ukrainian girl, who is not even 2 years old. The baby was in a serious condition, needed an urgent liver transplant. Only our doctors decided to perform the surgery. 

Alexei Shcherba, deputy director of the Minsk Surgery, Transplantation and Hematology Center: "Liver transplantation to the child is more difficult than any other surgery and the responsibility is very high, in this case the child was in a very serious condition, she waited for this surgery for several months, her mother was not suitable as a donor for medical reasons". 

The unique liver transplant operation lasted 10 hours. 

In general, liver transplantation operations are not new to the doctors of this center: a total of 692 transplants have been done here, 58 of them to children under three.
