Belarusian engineers ensure power supply to Chernobyl NPP

Power supply to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has been restored. On March 10, this task was set by the head of state after a conversation with Vladimir Putin. As a result of military action, the plant was de-energized - the facility was operating at the expense of backup power sources. Such a situation could have led to disastrous consequences not only for Ukraine's immediate neighbors, but also for the whole of Europe. Belarusian power engineers lent a helping hand.

The danger of the Chernobyl plant without power should not be underestimated. Without a system for cooling nuclear waste, the temperature in the storage facility will begin to rise. This can lead to the formation of radioactive vapor. After its release into the atmosphere, such a dirty cloud would cover Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, and West European countries.

Alexander Lukashenko drew attention to the problem during a planned meeting with the power block. The Head of State noted: Belarus has all necessary resources to prevent the tragedy.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:

"We have power lines from Soviet times, it must be restored immediately. And there will have to be a temporary scheme to supply electricity to ensure the safety of the CNPP in a normal mode."

The power link between Belarus and Ukraine was always in a state of readiness. Therefore, the President's task did not cause any difficulties, even though it was a serious piece of work. It is not enough just to switch on the power; verification procedures are required.

The distance from the Mozyr substation to the CNPP is relatively short - less than 200 km. The length of the line on the territory of our country is 80 km.

After all the necessary measures were taken, the line was energized. The work done now allows us to supply voltage to Chernobyl NPP facilities.
