76 years ago, on June 22, 1941, the Brest Hero Fortress was the first to face the enemy who launched a sudden attack on the Soviet Union. The next four terrible years of deprivation, struggle and courage resulted in a long-awaited victory.

Literally a few hours ago, about 500 people reenacted the key episodes of Brest Fortress defense as part of a traditional requiem meeting in the Ceremonial Square. The theatrical performance Invasion reminded the audience of the tragic and heroic history of the Brest defense. Thousands of city residents, including veterans, regional leaders and youth, attended the event. Soldiers laid wreaths at the memorial and border guards threw flowers into the river Bug. A minute of silence was observed to honor the fallen heroes. The event also featured delegations from Russia, Ukraine and Slovakia.
