Belarus - Russia: Space exploration

11 апреля 2022

Space exploration by Belarusian and Russian scientists is obviously only one of the facets of the forthcoming talks at the highest level. But its importance should not be diminished. The status of a space power, which Belarus enjoys, ensures progress both for science and economy, and consequently, for the well-being of people. Sanctions have not jeopardized any of the scientific and production areas.  There are many new projects on the agenda. In particular, scientists of Belarus and Russia are developing a new satellite, or rather a whole constellation of satellites. It will enable to take high resolution images and even make video clips of any spot on the globe. Such technology will be unique in the world by the time of the launch.

Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus:

It will be a completely new resolution. It will be a super-satellite, the world achievement. Our company will provide this resolution and the whole series of the latest imaging devices and equipment. I am bringing a proposal from our Peleng and from Roskomos State Corporation's Academy of Sciences. We have already discussed a number of issues, but there are still some details. I think that our heads of state at the meeting will confirm the creation of the new satellite, its financing, and the time for its launch.Another field for joint work is the preparation of a Belarusian participant to be sent into space. The fact that scientists from Belarus and Russia will develop a scientific program for the Belarusian astronaut in orbit was announced at the beginning of the year. An interdepartmental group on the selection of candidates has already been formed. It will answer not only who will go to the international space station, but what experiments will be carried out during his flight. The National Academy of Sciences expects that in the first half of the year a road map of the preparation of Belarusians at Roscosmos will be signed.
