Belarus extends visa-free travel for the citizens of Lithuania and Latvia until the end of the year. The decision was taken by President Alexander Lukashenko on the basis of numerous requests and wishes of the citizens of the Baltic States. The previously introduced simplified procedure expires today. As noted the Belarusian State Border Committee, the citizens of the neighboring countries passing through the checkpoints on the Belarusian-Lithuanian and Belarusian-Latvian sections of the border may use the right of visa-free entry for an unlimited number of times and remain within the country. In this case, all foreigners must provide a valid document for entry, a green card (if travelling by car), a negative PCR-test or certificate of vaccination, as well as health insurance.
Anton Bychkovsky, an official representative of the State Border Committee of Belarus:
“Given the high demand for the Belarusian visa-free visa by foreign nationals, the country's leadership has decided to extend the right to visa-free entry. Citizens of Lithuania and citizens (non-citizens) of Latvia will be able to enter Belarus without a visa until December 31, inclusive. A total of about 52 thousand citizens of Lithuania and Latvia have arrived in Belarus since April 15. 65% of them have left these countries without a visa.”
The agency adds that Lithuanians and Latvians do not require passes to visit the border zone. They only need to verbally inform the officer of the border guards at the entrance to the country at the Belarusian checkpoint, as well as to name the location and the purpose of the visit. As noted in the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, this gesture of goodwill of Minsk has become a clear indication of the desire of our country to preserve good neighborly relations with the Baltic States, as well as to further develop interpersonal contacts between ordinary people, even in the conditions of the illegal sanctions pressure on Belarus.
